Welcome, Rosie
A little one. A whole lot of love.
For a christening or naming day, create a free invitation page with the ceremony time and place and the venue for the meal afterwards, then share the link with family and friends. Guests reply with the number of adults and children coming and any dietary needs, so you know how many to book for lunch.
What is the difference between a christening and a naming day?
A christening, or baptism, is a Christian ceremony, usually held in church during or after a Sunday service. A naming day is a non-religious celebration, often led by a celebrant or simply by the family. Both are usually followed by lunch or tea, and both bring several generations together.
| Christening | Naming day | |
|---|---|---|
| Ceremony | In church, with a member of the clergy | Anywhere, with a celebrant or the family |
| Supporting adults | Godparents | Often called guide parents or supporting adults |
| Afterwards | Lunch, tea or a party | Lunch, tea or a party |
What should a christening invitation include?
- The child's name
- The ceremony time and the church or venue
- Where and when the celebration afterwards is
- Whether children are welcome
- A reply-by date
If the ceremony is part of a regular service, say when guests should arrive, as the service may start before the baptism itself.
Why count children separately?
Christenings and naming days are full of children, and venues often price children's meals differently. RSVP Events asks how many adults and how many children are coming, and the headcount shows both. With names or meals turned on, each child gets their own row, and you can offer a children's menu that the meal counts list separately.
How do you invite godparents and older relatives?
Send the same link to everyone. Godparents may want to know more about their role, so call them before the invitation goes out. Older relatives can reply on any browser, or phone you and be added to the list by hand.
What should you ask guests?
- How many adults are coming?
- How many children, and their ages if you need them
- Any dietary requirements or allergies?
- Any questions for the parents?
